Pastor Doug's thoughts on Sunday's message. February 22

Subject: The Door is Open: Moving from Knowledge to Relationship

Dear Church Family,

As we journeyed through this first Sunday of Lent, I wanted to recap our message about what it truly means to know Jesus—not just know about Him.

Summary: The sermon explored the critical difference between knowing facts about Jesus and actually knowing Him through relationship. Using the story of an astronomer's grandson who moved from studying the stars to experiencing them firsthand, we examined how faith is more about curiosity than certainty. Through John 1:35-39, we saw how the first disciples didn't ask Jesus theological questions—they simply asked, "Where are you staying?" They wanted to be near Him. Jesus' response, "Come and see," remains His invitation to us today. This Lenten season calls us to make room for Jesus, to create space in our lives not just for learning more information, but for deepening our actual relationship with Him.

Takeaways:

Curiosity deepens faith, not weakens it. Don't be afraid to ask questions or sit with doubt. Curiosity drives relationship with Jesus, just as it does in any meaningful friendship. The disciples' simple question about where Jesus stayed showed they prioritized presence over information.
Prayer is conversational, not one-sided. Knowing Jesus means spending time with Him through prayer that includes both speaking and listening. Make space to pour out your heart, then wait and listen—responses may come through your spirit, circumstances, or events around you.
Jesus waits at the door, but won't force His way in. The invitation is always open, but we must choose to make room. This Lent, consider what you need to set aside to create space for deeper relationship with Christ. The transformation we seek comes not from facts, but from knowing Him.
Closing Remarks: Over these coming weeks, I encourage you to ask yourself honestly: Do I know about Jesus, or do I truly know Him? What questions do I want to ask Him? What areas of my life need to open wider to His presence? The door is open. You're invited. Come and see.

Grace and peace,

Pastor. Doug
