Pastor Doug's Thought for Today November 11

Good Morning,

Today we celebrate our nations veterans.  The flags are flying at Ashland as we give thanks for all that have served.  The office is closed today, we close if there is no mail and banks are closed.  I was hope doing some catchup stuff, but I am in this afternoon.  The weather is wonderful.  We have had some really nice days this fall.  The leaves are piling up and will have to be dealt with, but not today.  I hope can get outside some and enjoy this warm afternoon. I hope you have a great day and feel the blessings of God!

Blessings, Doug

We have pictures from the 50+ outing to the Cronkite Museum available in the office if you would like a copy.

Today's Scripture

1 John 2:15-16 (New International Version)
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Today's Thought

OK, this is a bit harsh. So what is John actually saying here?  John is instructing believers not to love "the world" (Greek: kosmos).  He is not referring to the physical earth or people, but to the world system that operates in opposition to God. He identifies three categories of worldly temptation: bodily cravings, covetousness of what we see, and arrogant pride in our possessions or status.  We are to not get caught up in an earthly kingdom, but to focus on the Kingdom to come, the Kingdom of God. Just a thought for today!
