Pastor Doug's Thought For Today 5/23

Good Morning,

The weekend has arrived and with it so much to be excited about.  Abe graduates from high school tomorrow and he will be a freshman at Mizzou! We are headed to celebrate and help get things around for the party.  It is of course Memorial Day weekend and we have a great day of worship planned.  Carol and I are still uncertain about our plans for Sunday/Monday, time will tell. The weather will be rainy and chilly most of the weekend so plan accordingly.  Have a great day and of course connect with Ashland this weekend!  Everybody needs a little Jesus.

Blessings, Doug

I want to make you aware Jackie Stufflebean passed from this world yesterday.  Funeral plans are not made, but the service will be after the Memorial Day weekend.  Please keep Ray and the family in your prayers.

Today's Scripture

Romans 15:2 (New International Version)
Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.

Today's Thought

Who is my neighbor?  We are familiar with the question from scripture.  We sometimes forget the answer.  Jesus gives us the answer by telling the parable of the Good Samaritan.  This is a story of a person in need being helped by a person that had no connection to the person in need. This is someone helping who is an alien and the least likely candidate to get involved.  In fact, we see those we would think would help walk on by. Keep in mind the greatest commandment as you hear the story.  Remember we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Bring that story full circle.  Today, who is walking by on the other side of the road?  Who ignores the needs of others because of inconvenience?  Who walks by because of fear?  It is time for us to hear the story and place ourselves squarely in the middle of it.  We want to believe we are the Good Samaritan.  I think we think too highly of ourselves. Just a thought for today!
