During Lent we'll continue in the Living Stones Project, remembering the encouragement the apostle Peter gave in his first letter, "Liking living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house" (1 Peter 2:5). The emphasis of the Living Stones Project is spiritual growth, letting God build, letting God give growth in each one of us individually, in each household, and in the church.
In the same section of 1 Peter, in that same teaching on living stones, the apostle refers to Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. We could take that a few different ways. We could think of Christ the cornerstone as the One that keeps us in proper alignment with God, the One who is our sure foundation, or the One who holds us all together. But I ask you also to consider Christ the cornerstone as the One who is at the center, of our individual lives, our households, and our church. That would mean that everything is centered on, revolves around, Him.
The tremendous difference made by establishing Christ at the Center is the theme of our Lenten worship series. We invite you to be as consistent in worship attendance as possible throughout Lent in order to give God the best opportunity to give us all a true season of growth. That's the purpose of Lent, the purpose of God, and the purpose of our Lenten sermon series, so plan to join us for Christ at the Center, starting February 21.
